HAMILTON, NY?The Broncs lost another 1-0 decision, their second in a row, falling to Central Arkansas in the first round of the Raiders/Adidas Fall Classic, hosted by Colgate University.
“We just didn't come to play today with any heart or with any brains,” said Rider head coach Russ Fager. “We made some terrible decisions and we looked like we couldn't figure out what was going on. We've had some bad games over the years but I can't remember a game like this in a long time.”
The goal, scored in the 52nd minute, was the first of the year for Central Arkansas (1-2) after the Bears lost 6-0 to Kentucky and 3-0 to Evansville. “They played a block of 10 in front of the keeper,” Fager said. “They defend with 10 guys the entire game and look to steal a goal somewhere.”
UCA out-shot Rider 8-5. “We had some scoring opportunities early in the game but we didn't capitalize on them,” Fager said. “In the second half I don't think we had a strike on goal. We had a lot of serves but no shots.”
Rider (1-2) senior goalkeeper Randall Zapolski (Lawrence, N.J./Lawrence) made one save. “We got another steady game from Randy,” Fager said.
“I thought (senior) Colin Jennings (Wall, N.J./Wall/Elizabethtown) played very well,” Fager said. “He did a great job back in the back for us and had some great long serves. He played inspired soccer and did an awful lot of things right. He took a leadership role.”
Rider takes on host Colgate Sunday afternoon.
