GREELEY, CO?The Broncs lost to the host UNC Bears in the first round of the Clarion Inn Classic, held at Jackson Stadium. “It is just a different experience playing out here,” said Rider head coach Drayson Hounsome. “Players we have who are usually the fastest players on the field suddenly aren't. Where we are normally first to the ball we are a yard short.”
Northern Colorado scored in the 30th minute and again just before half time. “We worked hard and continued to work hard after being down 2-0 in the first half,” Hounsome said.
NC (3-4) out-shot Rider (1-4-1) 21-2. “They had six shots on target and scored on four of them,” Hounsome said. “With the thin air if you hit it right it flies.”
Sophomore Alex Post (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) made four saves in the Rider goal.
“Nat Sica (junior Natalie Sica Marlton, N.J./Holy Cross) played very well for us today,” Hounsome said. “She played right back and did an excellent job.”
Rider plays North Florida Sunday. “Hopefully Sunday North Florida is in the same situation as us and it will be a little more competitive,” Hounsome said. “Hopefully we can get a win Sunday and come back with a split.”
