LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – In a rainy MAAC battle at Ben Cohen Field, the Rider women's soccer (2-4-3, 0-2-1 MAAC) team played to a scoreless draw against Saint Peter's (4-3-3, 1-2-1 MAAC) on Wednesday evening, holding the Peacocks without a single shot on goal.
The Broncs came out aggressive, firing seven shots in the opening 15 minutes, six of which forced saves from the Saint Peter's keeper.
Despite Rider's 10-4 shot advantage, including a 6-0 edge on goal, the match remained scoreless at the break.
In the second half, Saint Peter's applied more pressure, registering eight shots but still failing to test freshman keeper
Ashley Moore.
Valgerður Sigurjónsdóttir nearly broke through in the 52nd minute with a strike from outside the 18 that sailed just high, then forced a strong save three minutes later.
Lauren Black had a chance in the 61st minute, pushing her effort just wide right after a Broncs corner.
With six minutes remaining,
Leah Marcell played a ball to
Tess Ferrie, who beat her defender and fired a shot just off target, leaving the match locked at 0-0.
Quotes and Notes
"Saint Peter's has scored 19 goals this season, so holding them without a single shot on goal is definitely a positive. It was another shutout, and credit goes to our defensive unit for an excellent job. They have players who can score, but I thought we looked dangerous with the chances we created. Our shot selection can be sharper, and that's something we'll address in film as we prepare for Sacred Heart on Saturday." -
