Men: Siena College 5, Rider University 2
Women: Siena College 7, Rider University 0
Loudonville, N.Y. ? Both the Rider University men's and women's tennis teams were defeated by Siena College in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action Saturday. The women were swept 0-7 while the men took some matches but lost 2-5. “It comes down to making errors,” said head coach Ed Torres. “They were a more experienced team. They were more consistent.”
For the Rider (1-3) men, junior Marc Ashed (Vineland) won his fourth singles match in a three set nailbiter 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (11) and teamed with junior Will Haight (Sewell/Washington Township) at second doubles to win 8-6.
“Marc had a great match today,” Torres said. “He played a tough match against Marist and it really prepared him. He's been working hard in practice.”
Rounding out the winners was junior Casey Jedlinski (Manalapan). He won his first singles match in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.
“Casey's been playing very well lately,” said Torres. “He also played a good match against a one of the top players in the conference from Marist. I think it really helped him and carried over to today.”
The Rider (1-5) women dropped all six singles matches in straight sets as well as all doubles competition.
The Bronc men travel to Fordham on Tuesday, October 7th for a non-conference match at 3pm while the women continue their home stand with a non-conference match against Lafayette at 3pm on Wednesday, October 8th.
“Those are going to be two tough matches,” adds Torres. “It's going to be comparable to Siena. We just have to be consistent. It's the key to successful tennis.”
