Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match
Match Suspended by Darkness 10/10 - Completed 10/23
LAWRENCEVILLE ? In a match that was suspended by darkness on October 10, Saint Peter's returned to Rider on October 23 and swept the doubles points, defeating the Broncs 4-3 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. “There were some traffic issues for Saint Peter's coming to the match,” said head coach Ed Torres. “They got here a little late and we knew we couldn't get the entire match in. We knew the match could be decided with just singles; however, it came out to a tie. They came back and were able to win all three doubles matches. Overall, Saint Peter's just played a little better today."
Senior Casey Jedlinski (Manalapan) his winning ways winning first singles 2-6, 6-4, 10-2. This is his third consecutive win at first singles.
“Every match we play we've been really competitive in,” adds Torres. “This was a very evenly matched team to us. Overall it was a good match for us; it was good we tied.”
“Casey's really played the most consistent tennis,” Torres said. “He's not making many errors and really playing smart tennis.
Also for Rider (1-4), junior Marc Ashed (Vineland) won a hard fought fourth singles match 2-6, 7-6 (4),10-5, while sophomore Robert Olsen (Marlton/Cherokee) took his sixth singles match in straight sets 6-4, 6-0.
“Marc is also playing consistently,” said Torres. “He's not going for the hard shots, he's staying in points. It's actually surprising today because with the holiday he hasn't been able to practice. That first set was tough for him, but he came back and picked up his game.”
The Rider men next face Monmouth University in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 14th at 3:00pm.
“They beat us last year,” Torres adds. “I think we can be competitive though. We've got the same players back and now they have a season under their belts and are better players.”
