TEANECK?Both the Rider men's and women's tennis teams were swept at Fairleigh Dickinson Wednesday in a non-conference match. “It is a great experience for us to play a strong team like FDU,” said head coach Ed Torres. “By playing better teams, you yourself get better as a player.”
The FDU men's team is the defending Northeast Conference champions and returned every letterwinner while adding six freshmen.
In the closest match of the day, sophomores Will Haight (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) and Marc Ashed (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) fell in second doubles 8-7, losing the tiebreaker 7-5.
“Will and Marc both battled and played the most exciting match of the day,” Torres said. “They really deserved to win the match.”
Entering the match shorthanded by injury and illness, the women's team could only manage to win one game in five matches on the singles side. “The women battled but were over matched,” Torres added.
The Rider men's team hosts Lafayette at 3:00pm on Friday with the women's team traveling to Manhattan for a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match on Sunday at noon.
