Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Match

LAWRENCEVILLE?The Rider men's tennis team was swept by Marist in the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener Monday afternoon.  “Marist is the premier team of the MAAC,” said head coach Ed Torres.  “We were missing a couple of guys due to injury and Marist was a little more experienced.”

For the Broncs, junior Casey Jedlinski (Manalapan) lost a third set tie breaker 10-3 after splitting the first two sets 6-3, 4-6 against Marist's Loic Sessagesimi in a battle of two ground stroke players.

“I tried to differentiate a little and go to the net and use drop shots to try to keep him off pace,” said Jedlinski.  “I tried to use my endurance to wear him down before he wore me down.  I had a great start winning the first set 6-3 but I broke both of my rackets and that didn't help having to borrow one.  But give Loic credit, he boosted his play at the end and I couldn't dig deep enough to win.”

“Casey played an excellent match,” Torres added.  “The last four or five points turned the tie breaker.  He played a tremendous player very even.”

The men's team hosts La Salle at 3:00pm in a non-conference match Tuesday.

“The match against La Salle should be even and I think it will be competitive,” Torres added.  “We always play competitive matches between the two teams.”

The Broncs lost to La Salle 5-2 last fall after defeating the Explorers 6-1 in 2005 and 7-0 in 2004.

“I am thinking positive for tomorrow (against La Salle),” Jedlinski added.  “I almost beat one of the best players in the MAAC today.  I'm going to re-string my rackets and hope for the best on Tuesday.”
