The Rider University women’s basketball team announced the hiring of John Azzinaro as assistant coach beginning with the 2022-23 season. Azzinaro’s most recent experience comes as a video coordinator at Binghamton University.
Rider closed the 2022-23 season strong winning five of its final nine games, including an opening round victory in the MAAC Tournament over Marist. Amanda Mobley moved into second on Rider's career assist list, including a Division-I program record 13 against Manhattan. Mobley finished the season ranked just outside the top ten in the country for assists.
Prior to his year at Binghamton, Azzinaro spent two years with the WNBA’s Chicago Sky. During his time with the Sky, the team went from a losing record in 2019 to WNBA Champions in 2021. During the 2020 off-season, he spent time as a head coach with the NBA Basketball Without Borders Program.
Azzinaro got his start coaching with the Iowa Wolves in the NBA G-League, spending a season with the team as a coaching associate.
A four-year member of the basketball team at Bucknell, Azzinaro graduated with over 100 made three-pointers and as a member of the Bison’s NCAA Tournament team as a senior in 2017.
