Maxx Wurzburger

Maxx Wurzburger joined the Rider Men’s Soccer coaching staff in Spring 2023.

The Broncs won their sixth MAAC Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2023. Along the way, the Broncs enjoyed the fourth-largest improvement in the country in wins, going from three wins in 2022 to 12 victories in 2023. The team also enjoyed the sixth-greatest improvement in winning percentage in the country (+.347). 

A program-record eight Broncs earned All-MAAC honors in 2023, with Adel Al Masude, Saad Chaouki, Babacar Diene and Momo Diop being selected to the First Team. Sebastian Rojek took Second Team and Martin Chladek, Jack McGeechan and Ethan Shaw received Third Team recognition. Chaouki was also named MAAC Rookie of the Year and took national All-Freshman Second Team recognition from both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News. Diene and Diop were honored on the All-Region Third Team. The Broncs enjoyed a pair of long unbeaten streaks, with an eight-game unbeaten streak early in the year and a seven-match winning streak with the first four closing out the regular season and the last three coming in the MAAC Championship run.   

Wurzburger came to Lawrenceville following six seasons on Todd Tumelty's coaching staff at Montclair State, including the 2022 season as Associate Head Coach.

The stint at Montclair was Wurzburger’s second with the Red Hawks, having previously served from August 2015 until May 2017. He planned training sessions in addition to serving as the team's Recruiting Coordinator. He spent one season as the Head Coach at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, overseeing all soccer-related operations and managing the men's soccer budget.

Additionally, he works in youth soccer for Real JFC MLS Next as the Head Coach of the U17 and U19 boys teams, instructing youth soccer players in technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects of the game. He also serves as the liaison between players, parents, and coaches while handling all scheduling and communications between the three sides.
 
Wurzburger closed out his playing career in 2014, helping Montclair State to the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship as he was named to the All-NJAC First Team. Appearing in 21 games, Wurzburger scored six goals and had five assists, including one in the conference championship game against Rutgers-Camden. A two-time All-Conference selection, Wurzburger, a member of Montclair State's NCAA Final Four Team in 2011, appeared in 85 games during his four-year career, tallying 14 goals along with 21 assists.

He holds a USSF C license and has an NSCAA Level 5 Coaching Certificate. He graduated from Montclair State in 2016 with a B.S. in Physical Education and Health.
