Marlon Guild

Marlon Guild enters his sixth season as an assistant with the Rider Men’s Basketball team in 2020-21. Guild’s duties include recruiting, guard development, scouting of opponents, academic coordinator and compliance.

During his time at Rider, Guild has helped lead the Broncs to top three conference finishes the last three seasons, including a MAAC regular season title in 2018. He has also helped with the recruitment and development of seven all-conference players. 

The New York native has also helped in classroom where Broncs players have had success with a minimum of six players finishing with a semester with 3.0 GPA or higher the last three years. 

Prior to coming to Rider, Guild spent seven seasons at Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, New Jersey, as an assistant coach and as the men’s basketball recruiting coordinator where he helped in the recruitment of all-conference players, Marvin Dominique, Desi Washington and 2011 MAAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, Jeron Belin.. 
 
“I am excited to have Marlon in our program,” Baggett said. “I have known Marlon from his time at Saint Peter's and admired the work that he had done recruiting and helping to develop the players in their program.”
 
In addition to recruiting, Guild worked in the development of the Peacock guards and the scouting of opponents. Under his tutelage guards, Wesley Jenkins and Nick Leon would achieve individual success both amassing over 1,000 points in their careers while leading the Peacocks to the 2011 MAAC Tournament title.
 
“Marlon's familiarity with the league also will be very helpful as we prepare for our opponents in conference play this upcoming season,” Baggett said.
 
Guild got his start on the collegiate level as an assistant coach at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, Connecticut. In his lone year their the Warriors would finish 4th in the Little East Conference with Courtney Simmons and Edwin Ortiz receiving conference honors.
 
Before joining the college ranks, Guild coached the Connecticut Basketball Club AAU, now known as NE6 on the Under Armour Association circuit for five years. During his tenure as a coach for the 17U team, 23 of those players moved on to Division 1 basketball.
 
Guild has also been a recruiting basketball analyst for Rivals.com and spent time in the college basketball department at ESPN.

He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Hartford, receiving his bachelor’s degree in Journalism and in 2018, he received his master’s degree in Athletic Leadership from Rider University.
