Rider Men's Basketball
UMBC Grad Greene Director of Basketball Operations

Jay Greene, who played more minutes in more games than any player in the history of UMBC basketball, has been named the Director of Basketball Operations at Rider University, Rider head coach Tommy Dempsey announced.

"Jay has experienced a tremendous amount of success as a college basketball player," said Dempsey, who led Rider to 75 victories over the last four years, "having led his team at UMBC to the NCAA tournament."

A native of Whitehall, PA, Greene is a 2009 UMBC graduate, where he majored in Sociology and was twice his basketball team captain.

Greene earned First Team All-America East, Second Team All-America East and was a member of the America East All-Rookie team in his stellar collegiate career, compiling a UMBC record 683 career assists.

"Jay was passionate as a player and we expect his passion for the game of basketball to not only help him as he starts his coaching career but also to set a great example for the players in our program here at Rider" Dempsey said.

"I feel privileged to join the staff and for the opportunity to be a part of the Rider family," said Greene, who compiled 1,186 career points at UMBC. "Coach Dempsey is a proven winner and I'm excited about what we have in store for the future here."

Greene excelled in post-season play, earning America East Championship Tournament MVP honors as a junior, leading his team to the NCAA tournament, and was a member of the America East All-Tournament team as a senior, leading the Retrievers to the America East Title Game.

Greene finished third in career assists in the entire America East Conference and as a junior was the only player in the nation to rank among the top five in both assists (fourth at 7.2) and assist-to-turnover ratio (second at 3.47).
