Dane Fischer returns for his third season as an assistant coach of the Rider University men’s basketball team.

Fischer, a 2002 graduate of Ithaca College, came to Rider from Williams College, where he was an assistant coach for two seasons.

“Dane has really grown as a coach since he first joined our staff prior to the 2005-06 season.,” said Rider Head Coach Tommy Dempsey. “He has worked really hard to establish himself as a recruiter and he has great working relationships with our current players. He is involved in every aspect of our basketball program.”

At Rider, Fischer’s chief duties include recruiting, assisting with individual instruction, scouting, practice and game preparation and academic support.

“Dane Fischer has a very successful background in college basketball, both as a player and a coach,” said Rider Director of Athletics Don Harnum. “He is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the game and has a very bright future.”

At Williams, Fischer helped the Ephs compile a 46-11 two-year record and a National Runner-up finish in 2004.  Fischer also helped develop two First-Team All-Americans and three First Team All-NESCAC selections, while working under two-time Division III National Coach of the Year, Dave Paulsen.

At Ithaca, Fischer was a three-year starting point guard and two-year captain, and graduated among the top ten in Ithaca career assists and steals. The team MVP in 2002, Fischer led the Bombers to the Empire Eight Championship and to the NCAA tournament as a senior.
