LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's soccer team played out to a goalless 0-0 draw against Saint Joseph's on Tuesday night. With the tie, the Broncs move to a record of 3-1-1 while Saint Joe's move to a record of 1-0-3.
Starting his second game in a row in goal,
Tim Devine was called into action quick, denying a chance by Saint Joe's within the first minute of play. Devine denied the Hawks again a minute later before
Patryk Rojek logged the first attempt at goal for Rider, SJU's keeper to make a save in the fourth minute.
The battle between the Broncs and the Hawks continued through the end of the second half, with Rider controlling the secondary balls, snuffing out any real attempt at forward play from Saint Joe's to go into halftime with a 0-0 tie.
Saint Joe's had a clear cut opportunity to score in the 66
th minute, with the Broncs defense coming in clutch with a tackle on the goal line to keep the draw alive. With the defense holding strong late on, the Broncs held off the Hawks attack while not being able to convert on any other shots to round off the tie.

"I think they [Saint Joseph's] are well coached, they run hard, they are physical, and they are direct. So, I told the team we are going to have to challenge and win second balls to win the battle and then once we win second balls, then we try and play from there. During the second half, I think we got a hold of the game. We started pinning them back more like we like to do, but, I thought their goalkeeper did fantastic for them, came up with some world class saves and sometimes that how the game goes. We hoped to get a win out of it, but you know, you assess the performance and the result. Didn't get the win but I think the performance was pretty good."
