LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University field hockey team was defeated in its home opener Sunday after, falling to Georgetown, 2-1. The Broncs fall to 1-7 on the season, while the Hoyas improve to 4-4.
Georgetown had control of possession for a majority of the first half, but
Jade Regnart (Cape Town, South Africa/Fairmont) was up to the task, making seven first-half saves to keep the game 0-0 and the break.
The Hoyas finally broke through in the third, scoring twice in a span of just 64 seconds. Rider would respond before the quarter was up. In the aftermath of a Rider corner, the Broncs reentered the circle with a pass that found the stick of
Emma Bonshak (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall). Bonshak played a ball to the front of the goal mouth and
Ang Borisow (Harleysville, PA/Souderton) hit the ball into the back of the cage to trim the deficit to one.
The Broncs continued to apply pressure in the fourth, including earning four corners over just a minute of time on the game clock, but could not find an equalizing goal.
