Baseball Cruises to 10-5 Sweep at Mount St. Mary’s, Wins Sixth Straight

Paskell, Neri, and Magoulick Go Yard

EMMITSBURG, MD -  Three home runs fueled a decisive middle-inning surge as the Rider baseball team defeated Mount St. Mary's, 10-5, on Sunday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family Stadium to complete its third series sweep of the season. With the win, the Broncs improve to 12-5 overall and 8-1 in MAAC play, while the Mountaineers fall to 10-11 (4-5 MAAC).

Mount St. Mary's opened the scoring with a solo home run in the first, but Rider responded in the second to even the game. Noah Heath brought home the tying run with a groundout, making it 1-1.

Rider seized control in the third. Will Gallagher and Erich Hartmann drew back-to-back walks to open the inning before Kyle Neri delivered an RBI single through the left side to give the Broncs the lead. Anthony Paskell stayed hot, launching his third home run in as many days with a three-run shot to left-center to extend the lead to 5-1.

The Broncs broke the game open in the fourth, plating five runs on six hits. After a leadoff single and a walk put traffic on the bases, Hartmann doubled to put two in scoring position. Neri capitalized with a three-run home run to left, pushing the lead to 8-1. Later in the inning, Charley Magoulick added a two-run homer to right, capping the rally and giving Rider a 10-1 cushion.

Mount St. Mary's chipped away with single runs in the fourth and seventh innings, but Rider limited further damage, including escaping a bases-loaded jam in the seventh.

The Mountaineers added a two-run home run in the ninth, but the Broncs closed it out to secure the 10-5 victory and the series sweep.
