POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Despite a team-high 18 points from
Flash Burton (Philadelphia, PA/Cardinal O'Hara), the Rider University men's basketball team was defeated at Marist, 81-52, Thursday night. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-19 (2-11 MAAC), while the Red Foxes improve to 16-7 (10-4 MAAC).
The Broncs got early leads of 2-0, 4-2, and 6-4 on buckets by
Davis Bynum (O'Fallon, IL/East St. Louis[Cal St. Fullerton]),
Caleb Smith (Atlanta, GA/Fredrick Douglass[Pratt CC/Garden City CC]), and another from Bynum. With Rider holding the 6-4 lead, Marist responded with an 11-0 run. Then leading 23-13, the Red Foxes added an 8-0 run, and would go on to extend the lead to 48-23 at the half.
To start the second half, Burton scored seven points as Rider outscored Marist 11-4 in the first four minutes of the second frame to trim the deficit to 52-34. The Red Foxes once again had an answer, countering with an 11-0 run. A three by Burton with 9:46 to play cut the lead to 24 at 65-41, but the Broncs would get no closer.

- Marist held a 34-32 edge on the glass, but Rider held an 18-8 advantage on the offensive boards which led to a 14-7 Bronc advantage in second-chance points. Smith led Rider with six rebounds.
