Four-Run Fifth Not Enough as Baseball Falls at Delaware in Game Two

NEWARK, DE – The Rider baseball team erased an early deficit with a four-run fifth inning, but a late two-run blast lifted the Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens baseball to a 5-4 victory in the series matchup on Saturday afternoon.

Delaware struck first in the bottom of the opening frame, pushing across the game's first run to take an early advantage.

Delaware extended the margin to 2-0 before Rider Broncs baseball answered with a big fifth inning. Dillon Jennings opened the frame with a single to right, and after Matt Leahy reached on a fielder's choice, Leahy swiped second to move into scoring position. Will Gallagher followed with an RBI single to right, trimming the deficit in half. After Gallagher moved to second on a bunt by Paskell, the Broncs capitalized with two outs. Kyle Neri delivered a clutch two-run double to put Rider in front, and Eliot Medlock added an RBI single to cap the four-run surge and hand the Broncs a 4-2 lead.

The Blue Hens responded with a run in the sixth before launching a two-run homer in the seventh to reclaim the lead at 5-4. Delaware retired Rider in order in the ninth to lock down the victory and secure the series win.
