LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Flash Burton (Philadelphia, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) scored a team-high 21 points and
AB Coulibaly (Philadelphia, PA/W.Philadelphia/Avon Old Farms) added 17 points, but the Rider University men's basketball team fell to fell to Sacred Heart, 105-85, Monday afternoon at Alumni Gym. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 2-16 (1-8 MAAC), while the Pioneers are now 7-13 (3-6 MAAC).
Sacred Heart was red hot in the first half, shooting 59.4 percent (19-32), including 55.6 percent (10-18) from long range, to take a 51-38 lead into the break. After the Pioneers scored eight of the first 10 points to begin the game, the Broncs responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead, 10-8, on
Daniel Helterhoff's (Cologne, Germany/Urspringschule [USC Upstate]) finish inside off a Burton feed. But it would be Rider's only lead of the game, as the Pioneers answered with consecutive three's.
Sacred Heart created separation with an 8-0 run to push the lead to 32-21 at the nine-minute mark.
Davis Bynum (O'Fallon, IL/East St. Louis [Cal St. Fullerton]) led Rider with 12 first-half points on 6-of-9 shooting, while Burton added 11 on 4-of-8 from the floor.
The Pioneers' lead remained double digits throughout the remainder of the game, with Sacred Heart building it to as many as 25 points late.
