Ava Ferrie Nets Lone Goal as Women's Soccer Falls in MAAC Opener

HAMDEN, CT - Ava Ferrie provided the lone tally as the Rider women's soccer team fell 2-1 in its MAAC opener at Quinnipiac on Saturday afternoon.

The Broncs struck early, opening the scoring just two minutes in when Ella Baumgardt and Tess Ferrie combined to find Ava Ferrie inside the box for the finish.

Quinnipiac answered in the 25th minute as Addyson Earl connected with Milena Branco for the equalizer.

Rider nearly regained the lead in the 33rd minute when Ava DeGeorge set up Aysu Unver, whose shot was saved. Isis Ovares pounced on the rebound but pushed her attempt just wide.

The match was even at 1-1 heading into halftime, with the Bobcats holding an 11-7 edge in shots, including two apiece on target.

Quinnipiac wasted little time after the break, going in front 2-1 with a goal in the 50th minute.

The Bobcats nearly extended the margin in the 80th, but goalkeeper Kaia Lyn came up with a leaping save to keep the Broncs within one.

Rider continued to press late, generating three shots on goal in the final stretch, including back-to-back attempts from Ava and Tess Ferrie, but the Bobcats' keeper stood tall to secure the result.
