LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – A goal in each half lifted the Rider women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory over UAlbany, closing out non-conference play Sunday afternoon on Ben Cohen Field.
The Broncs wasted no time getting on the board as the Ferrie sisters connected in the 7th minute.
Ava Ferrie delivered a perfectly placed ball into the box, where
Tess Ferrie slotted it into the bottom right corner to give Rider the early 1-0 edge.
UAlbany didn't record its first shot until the 20th minute, when
Ashley Moore made her opening save of the day.
The Great Danes generated pressure late in the half with six shots on goal, but Moore stood tall with six first-half saves to preserve the lead.
Despite trailing 1-0 at halftime, UAlbany held a 7-4 advantage in total shots, including a 6-3 edge on goal.
Rider nearly doubled its lead in the 58th minute when
Isis Ovares' attempt drifted just wide. Three minutes later, Madison Wisheart came close to leveling the score for UAlbany, but her strike clanged off the crossbar.
The Broncs added insurance in the 65th minute, when Valgerður Sigurjónsdóttir delivered a cross from the right wing to
Leonor Alves, who buried a shot into the top right corner to seal the 2-0 win.
Quotes and Notes
"There's no such thing as an easy game, whether it's battling the heat or playing a heavy stretch of matches. Today, we were fortunate to come in well rested, and it showed. Our finishing was sharper, and it's always great to come away with a win and a shutout.
Ava and Tess have been consistent all season, and Ava delivered a fantastic ball to set up Tess for the early lead. It was a brilliant pass and a strong overall team performance. I'm really proud of the group."
