Women’s Soccer Nets Three First-Half Goals in Shutout Win Over Delaware State

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Three first-half goals from three different scorers powered the Rider women's soccer team to a 3-0 shutout victory over Delaware State on Wednesday evening.

The action started early as Delaware State was awarded a penalty in the 4th minute following a foul in the box.

Goalkeeper Ashley Moore stood tall, making the initial stop and then a second save on the rebound to keep the Hornets off the board. Moore later exited due to injury, with Kaia Lyn stepping in to finish the match.

In the 9th minute, the Broncs earned a penalty of their own, and Courtney Carter buried it from the spot to open the scoring.

The lead doubled in the 18th minute when Valgerður Sigurjónsdóttir's pace created trouble for the Hornets' back line. After her shot was deflected away, Ava Ferrie pounced on the rebound and blasted it into the top right corner for a 2-0 advantage.

Right before halftime, Tess Ferrie extended the lead in the 43rd minute, driving a shot from 18 yards out that slipped its way into the net to make it 3-0 at the break.

Rider held an 8-5 edge in shots after 45 minutes, including a 5-3 advantage on goal.

Delaware State pushed back in the second half, outshooting the Broncs 6-2, but Lyn preserved the clean sheet with three saves to close out the victory.

Quotes and Notes
"I'm really proud of the team for earning this victory. We've been playing well in other matches where the results didn't always show, so I'm happy they were rewarded tonight. It also marks our second straight shutout, which is a great sign.

It was great to see Kaia step in, respond, and play so well in her debut—there were a lot of positives to take from this game. Courtney is our go-to on penalty kicks, and she continues to step up with confidence and power in those moments.

Looking ahead, Quinnipiac is always a tough opponent, so we know it will be a challenge, but we're excited to give it our best effort." – Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome
