Women’s Soccer Battles NJIT to Scoreless Draw

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider women's soccer battled NJIT to a scoreless draw Sunday evening at Ben Cohen Field. With the result, the Broncs move to 0-2-2 on the season, while the Highlanders sit at 2-2-1.

The Broncs nearly opened the scoring in the 3rd minute when Leah Marcell collected a loose ball off a Rider corner and sent in a cross to Lauren Black, whose header forced the game's first save.

Rider wouldn't register another shot until the 41st minute, when Taylor Mays intercepted a pass and found Ava Ferrie, but once again the NJIT goalkeeper came up with the stop.

At halftime, NJIT held a slim 4-2 edge in shots, though the Broncs owned the 2-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Highlanders nearly broke the deadlock in the 59th minute when Maria Nogueira's attempt rattled off the crossbar.
From there, Rider goalkeeper Ashley Moore stood tall, making five second-half saves to preserve her clean sheet and secure the draw.

Quotes and Notes
"Ashley's been excellent for us. She's started all four games and has consistently played well, really hitting the ground running in preseason.

I thought we showed a lot of positives in the first half today. We moved the ball well, kept possession, and dictated the tempo. With this being our third match in seven days, there was always the chance fatigue would show in the second half. Looking ahead to Wednesday, I want to see us sustain that first-half level of play for the full 90 minutes."- Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

- The Broncs now hold a 7-6-1 advantage in the all-time series against NJIT, with today's match marking the first draw between the two programs.
- Six Broncs went the full 90 minutes: Ashley Moore, Bethie Morgan, Ava Ferrie, Isis Ovares, Courtney Carter, and Ava DeGeorge.
- Moore tied her season high with six saves in the match.

Broncs by the Numbers
