Women’s Soccer Falls on the Road at Saint Joseph’s

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Rider women's soccer team fell 3-0 to Saint Joseph's in non-conference action Thursday night.

The Broncs nearly struck first in the 9th minute when Ava DeGeorge lined up a free kick after a Hawk foul, but her shot rattled off the left post to keep the match scoreless.

Saint Joseph's broke through in the 14th minute, finishing off a cross to take the early lead. The Hawks doubled their advantage in the 32nd minute to go up 2-0.

At the break, Saint Joseph's held a 9-3 edge in shots, while Rider goalkeeper Ashley Moore recorded four saves to keep the Broncs within reach.

The Hawks wasted little time extending their lead after halftime, as Sarah Fisher headed home a corner into the lower-left corner of the net just minutes into the second half to make it 3-0.

Saint Joseph's threatened to make it 4-0 after a Rider handball in the box awarded a penalty, but Moore stepped up with a stop for her sixth save of the match.

Quotes and Notes
"Saint Joseph's is a tough physical team with a group of athletes quicker and more physical than you commonly see in the MAAC. That was the main difference tonight. They tackled  harder, sprinted faster, jumped higher and out fought us. Soccer wise we had some good moments but athletically we were not where they are." - Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

-    The Hawks now lead the Broncs 3-2-1 in all-time series history.
-    Saint Joseph's held a 19-4 advantage in shots, including a 9-2 edge on goal.
