PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rider University baseball team fell to Rutgers, 7-1, in Wednesday's midweek matchup, as the Broncs were limited to just three hits on the day.
The Scarlet Knights got on the board early, scoring a run in the bottom of the first before Brennan Hyde extended the lead with a solo home run in the second.
Rutgers added another run in the third to make it 3-0.
A two-run homer by Yomar Carreras in the fourth pushed the Rutgers lead to 5-0.
Rider broke through in the fifth when
Charley Magoulick drew a walk and moved into scoring position on a double by
Matt Leahy.
Peter Crespo brought Magoulick home with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 5-1.
Rutgers responded with a sacrifice fly of its own in the bottom half of the fifth, and Carreras capped the scoring with his second home run of the game in the eighth.
