Early Lead Slips Away as Baseball Falls to Army

WEST POINT, NY – The Rider baseball team dropped the second game of their back-to-back series at Army, falling 15-6 on Saturday afternoon.

The Broncs came out strong, scoring five runs in the first inning on just two hits.

A leadoff hit-by-pitch and two walks quickly loaded the bases. Kyle Neri drew a third walk to bring in the game's first run, and Nick Shuhet followed with a two-run single to give Rider a 3-0 lead.

Army was forced to go to the bullpen early, still with no outs.

Charley Magoulick added another walk to reload the bases, and Shuhet scored on a fourth walk of the inning.

Anthony Paskell capped the rally by driving in Magoulick, giving Rider a 5-0 advantage.

Army answered with a run in the bottom of the first, then tied the game with a four-run second inning.

Rider briefly regained the lead in the fourth when Shuhet notched his second hit of the game, an RBI single that brought home Hartmann to make it 6-5. But the Black Knights responded with two runs in the fifth to retake the lead, then broke the game open with a five-run sixth, pushing the score to 12-6.

The Broncs were held hitless until Richie Sica's single in the eighth, but were unable to capitalize, leaving two runners on base

A lightning delay at the bottom of the eighth paused the game for over 90 minutes, but the Army resumed its momentum, tacking on three more runs to seal the 15-6 victory.
