WEST POINT, NY — The Rider baseball team fell to Army, 7-3, in a non-conference matchup on Friday evening.
The Broncs jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first, sparked by a leadoff double from Anthony Paskell.
Two batters later, Joe Tiroly delivered an RBI single to left field, bringing Paskell home for the 1-0 advantage.
Army responded quickly in the bottom half of the inning, plating two runs to take a 2-1 lead.
Rider went quiet at the plate until the fifth inning, when Paskell struck again, this time with a two-run home run off the left field wall, putting the Broncs back on top, 3-2.
However, the Black Knights answered with a five-run bottom of the fifth, their biggest inning of the game, to reclaim the lead for good at 7-3.
The Broncs managed just two more hits the rest of the way, one from Tiroly in the eighth and back-to-back singles by Nick Shuhet and Richie Sica in the ninth—but were unable to convert any into runs as Army secured the win.
