Rider Announces Removal of Lipinski's Interim Tag

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Athletic Director Don Harnum announced Wednesday that he is removing the interim title from Lee Lipinski '16. Lipinski replaced Dr. Barry Davis as interim head coach for the 2025 season, after Davis announced his resignation prior to the season.

"Lee has earned the opportunity to lead the Rider Baseball program as the head coach," said Harnum. "This decision is not solely based on the accomplishments of this season, but also the totality of his successful leadership experiences as both a Rider player and assistant coach. I look forward to working with Lee as he continues to develop his head coaching acumen."

This season, the Broncs have secured a top-two seed in the MAAC Tournament after a 20-6 start to MAAC play, and can clinch a the MAAC regular season tile this weekend with a series win over Fairfield. Overall, the Broncs are 30-16 on the season, just six wins shy of the program record for single-season wins in Lipinski's first season at the helm. Individually this season, Lipinski has seen second baseman Joe Tiroly rewrite the Rider record book, already setting the program's single-season RBI record while ranking in the top 15 in the country in both RBIs and slugging percentage, along with pitcher Brian Young leading the MAAC in ERA and wins.

"I'm incredibly grateful and honored to have the opportunity to continue leading this program," said Lipinski. "A special thank you to Don Harnum for his belief in me and the support throughout this process. It means the world to me to represent a program I care so deeply about, as an alumnus of both the university and this baseball family. I'm excited for what lies ahead, and truly thankful for all those who paved the way before me."

Lipinski is in his eighth year on the Broncs' coaching staff after seven years as the team's hitting coach. Lipinski joined Davis' staff for the 2018 season after a five-year playing career at Rider, during which the two-time captain amassed 115 career hits, 14 career home runs, 80 RBIs, and touted a .706 OPS, helping the Broncs win two MAAC Regular Season Championships and reach the MAAC Tournament three times. Lipinski's career was highlighted by game winning home runs against Kent State (2015) and VMI (2016). Lipinski threw out 50 runners attempting to steal in his career, highlighted by a career-best and MAAC leading 24 in his final season with the Broncs.

While an assistant, Lipinski helped guide the Broncs to MAAC Championships in 2021 and 2023, including Rider's first NCAA Tournament win in over 35 years when the Broncs defeated 10th-seeded Coastal Carolina in the opening game of the Conway Regional. The Broncs also added a signature win during the regular season that year, topping sixth-ranked Duke in a midweek game and defeating 2022 National Runners Up Oklahoma as part of a weekend series. Under Lipinski's guidance, outfielder Brendan O'Donnell set the Rider single-season (20) and career (34) home run records.
