LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Matteus Froberg Dahlin (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium),
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) and
Cole Thurgur (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean) won twice each as the Rider University men's tennis team earned a 5-2 MAAC victory over Fairfield Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 7-12 (2-3 MAAC), while the Stags slip to 6-7 (2-2 MAAC).
The Broncs took the doubles point with 6-2 wins at the top two flights. Tangri and Froberg Dahlin earned a victory at No. 1 over Kostas Kollias and Kacper Krolikowski, while Thurgur and
Roger Martinez (Girona, Spain/Saint George's School) got past Sam Hodges and Domagoj Stabek at No. 2.
In singles, the Broncs were dominant at the top of the lineup, with Froberg Dahlin taking a 6-0, 6-2, victory over Hodges at No. 1, while Tangri earned a 6-3, 6-1, win over Krolikowski at No. 2. The Stags took wins at Nos. 3 and 4, but the Broncs earned wins at Nos. 5 and 6 to close out the match victory.
Matthew Griscti (Madliena, Malta) clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Will O'Brien at No. 6, while Thurgur battled back from down a set to defeat Stabek, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5.
While the Broncs' regularly-scheduled Friday match vs. Siena has been postponed until Tuesday, Rider will return to action Sunday, when it plays host to Marist at 2 p.m.
