LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Matteus Froberg Dahlin (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) and
Cole Thurgur (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean) won twice each and the Rider University men's tennis team won five-of-six singles flights en route to a 6-1 MAAC win over Marist on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 8-12 (3-3 MAAC), while the Red Foxes fall to 5-12 (1-5 MAAC).
The Broncs took the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 wins at the top two flights. Froberg Dahlin and
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) paired on a victory at No. 1 over Ian Layton and Nick Suhanitski, while Thurgur and
Roger Martinez (Girona, Spain/Saint George's School) defeated Jose Catala and Gregor Heinemann at No. 2. The match at No. 3 was halted at 4-4 when the Broncs clinched the point.
Froberg Dahlin earned a 6-2, 6-0, win over Suhanitski at No. 2, while
Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) picked up a 7-5, 6-2, victory over Heinemann at No. 3. Thurgur also earned a straight-sets victory over Augustin Damonte at No. 4.
At No. 5,
Axel Engstrom defeated Anirudh Nallaparaju, 6-3, 6-4, while the Broncs rounded out their victories as
Giacomo Ghitti (Brescia, Italy/Marco Polo) defeated Tomas Gomez, 7-6 (2), 6-0, at No. 6.
With the match already in hand, No. 1 was decided by a 10-game pro set, with Marist's Catala taking a 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) victory.
The Broncs return to action Tuesday, when they play host to Siena. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
