LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's tennis team fell to Fairfield, 7-0, Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 7-11 (3-2 MAAC), while the Stags improve to 5-11 (4-0 MAAC).
The Stags took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. The Broncs were competitive at No. 2, as
Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany/Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt) and
Chloe Monachelli (Somers, NY/Somers) were tied at 3-3 with Maeve Cassidy and Sarah Liu when the match was halted.
Fairfield swept the six singles matches, with
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) and Monachelli forcing third sets at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Naves fell to Lily Malinowski, 7-6 (4), 1-6, 1-0 (10-7), at No. 4, while Monachelli was defeated by Maria Gell, 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6), at No. 5.
While the Broncs' regularly-scheduled Friday match vs. Siena has been postponed until Tuesday, Rider will return to action Sunday, when it plays host to Marist at 11 a.m.
