Baseball Falls to Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – The Rider baseball team fell to non-conference opponent Penn State, 14-4, on Wednesday evening.

The Nittany Lions jumped out to a quick start, scoring three runs in the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead.

Will Gallagher put the Broncs on the board in the top of the second with an RBI single that brought home Anthony Paskell

Rider then took advantage of a Penn State fielding error to score two more runs, tying the game at 3-3 after two innings.

The score remained knotted until the bottom of the fifth, when Penn State erupted for four runs, two of which came on Rider defensive miscues, to reclaim the lead at 7-3.

Bryce Molinaro added to the Nittany Lions' advantage with a solo home run in the seventh, and Ryan Weingartner followed with a two-run shot as part of a four-run inning that extended the lead to 12-3.

Rider struggled offensively after the second inning, managing just three hits until the top of the eighth, when Christian Bermudez and Kyle Neri delivered back-to-back hits.

The Broncs were able to push across a run as Bermudez scored on an RBI single by Anthony Paskell, trimming the deficit to 12-4.
