Baseball Outlasts Marist in Extras to Cap Off Sweep

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Charley Magoulick and Will Gallagher came through in the clutch to lift Rider to a 9-5 extra-inning victory over Marist, completing a series sweep. Magoulick's go-ahead RBI single and Gallagher's two-run triple in the 12th inning broke a tense tie, helping the Broncs survive a late Marist comeback and close out the weekend.

Rider opened the scoring in the top of the second inning when Anthony Paskell grounded out, driving Kyle Neri home.

In the top of the fourth, Charley Magoulcik added another run for Rider with a triple to right field, bringing Paskell across the plate to make it 2-0.

The Broncs extended their lead in the top of the seventh, plating three runs on an RBI single by Erich Hartmann and a two-run single from Kyle Neri, stretching the advantage to 5-0.

Marist finally broke through in the bottom of the eighth on a solo home run by Sean Esposito, trimming the deficit to 5-1.

Heading into the ninth, the Red Foxes still trailed 5-1.

Jake Dorety came in to relieve Clayton Poliey, but Marist quickly loaded the bases with one out. They brought in a run after a hit-by-pitch, cutting the lead to 5-2.

The next Marist batter delivered a two-run single to make it 5-4 with just one out. Zach Silfies then relieved Dorety with runners on the corners. Marist tied the game at 5-5 on a fielder's choice, but Silfies struck out the next batter with a runner on second to force extra innings.

In extras, Rider's pitching held Marist to just two hits.

In the top of the 12th, the Broncs loaded the bases with one out thanks to a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and a fielder's choice.

Marist was forced to turn to their bullpen to face freshman Charley Magoulcik, who came through with a clutch RBI single to score Kyle Neri. Nick Shuhet followed, scoring on a Marist throwing error to push the lead to 7-5.

Will Gallagher then delivered a two-run triple to center field, giving Rider a 9-5 lead.

Silfies stayed on the mound in the bottom of the 12th, recording a strikeout and helping the Broncs seal the win with a game-ending double play.
