LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider baseball team put together a complete offensive performance, scoring in six of eight innings to power past Seton Hall, 11-8, on Monday afternoon at Sonny Pittaro Field.
The Broncs struck early, plating the first two runs of the game.
Joe Tiroly drove in
Matt Leahy with an RBI single after Leahy led off the inning with a single to left.
Kyle Neri then showcased his speed, stealing home to give Rider a 2-0 lead.
Seton Hall responded in the top of the second with two runs to even the score.
But the Broncs quickly regained the lead in the bottom half, loading the bases and drawing back-to-back walks to make it 3-2. Tiroly added his second RBI of the day with a groundout to extend the lead to 4-2, and
Anthony Paskell later scored on a wild pitch to push the advantage to 5-2 in the third.
In the fourth, Neri notched a milestone with his 100th career hit, driving in
Erich Hartmann to make it 6-2.
The Pirates chipped away with two runs in the fifth, cutting the lead to 6-4, but Rider responded with a four-run burst in the bottom half.
Tiroly doubled to drive in one, a Seton Hall error brought in another, and
Nick Shuhet capped the inning with a two-run homer to right, giving the Broncs a 10-4 cushion.
Seton Hall loaded the bases in the sixth but couldn't convert.
Paskell delivered again in the seventh, recording his third hit of the day and driving in Neri to extend the lead to 11-4.
Sacred Heart added two runs across the eighth and ninth innings, but it wasn't enough as Rider held on for the 11-8 win.
The Broncs scored in seven of nine innings, with only the sixth and eighth going scoreless.
