WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Rider University women's lacrosse team was defeated Wednesday afternoon, 16-8, at Monmouth. The Broncs fall to 3-3 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 2-5.
Monmouth took control of the game early, going up 2-0 before
Elizabeth Shean (Seal Beach, CA/Los Alamitos) scored off a feed from
Elena Bontatibus (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury). The Hawks then caught fire, scoring 10-straight goals to close out the half, going into the break leading 12-1.
Monmouth carried the momentum into the second half, scoring three-straight goals to extend the lead to 15-1.
Katie Walsh (Marlton, NJ/Camden Catholic[FDU-Florham]) then scored make it 15-2 entering the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, the Broncs finally found their stride, scoring six-straight goals, started by
Madison Rothwein (Mount Royal, NJ/Kingsway Regional), then back-to-back goals by Walsh, tallies by
Anna Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City[TCNJ]) and Shean, before Walsh finished the rally with her fourth of the game, beating the goalie in the top left corner. Monmouth would get a goal in the game's final 30 seconds to produce the final score.
