HAMDEN, CT – Matteus Froberg Dahlin (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) won at both No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles, but the Rider University men's tennis team was edged at Quinnipiac, 4-3, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 6-11 (1-3 MAAC), while the Bobcats improve to 6-11 (4-0 MAAC).
Froberg Dahlin combined on a 7-5 doubles victory at the top flight with
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) over Finn Burridge and Carlos Bruno Simo. Paired with a 6-4 victory from
Axel Engstrom and
Cooper Dillon (Brisbane, Australia/Laurel Springs) over Elias Hoxha and Yasha Laskin at No. 3, the Broncs took the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead.
In singles, the Broncs got wins at Nos. 2 and 5 from Froberg Dahlin and
Cole Thurgur (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean), respectively. Froberg Dahlin defeated Bruno Simo, 6-0, 7-6, 1-0 (10-8), at No. 2, while Thurgur made quick work of James Lorenzetti, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5. But the Bobcats would take the remaining four singles flights in straight sets to earn the 4-3 victory.
The Broncs return to action Tuesday, when they play host to Temple at 2 p.m.
