LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's tennis team took four of six singles flights to earn a 4-3 victory over Mount St. Mary's Friday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 7-8 (3-0 MAAC), while the Mountaineers fall to 1-14 (0-3 MAAC).
Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany/Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt) and
Chloe Monachelli (Somers, NY/Somers) blanked Kaajal Ramisetty and Valentine Mudry, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles. But the Mountaineers came away with the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2.
But the Broncs stormed back in singles.
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) and
Claire Brown (Duluth, GA/Northview) earned straight-sets victories at Nos. 1 and 3. Fishman defeated Margherita Trolese, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 1, while Brown took a 6-2, 6-2, win over Ramisetty at No. 3.
The remaining victories game in third-set tiebreakers.
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) defeated Mudry, 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8), at No. 6.
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) clinched the match with a 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) victory over Amari O'Brien at No. 4.
The Mountaineers' two singles wins came in three sets, with Venus Tang earning a 4-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory at No. 2. Bella Pescatore also took a 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5) win at No. 5.
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they travel to Quinnipiac. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
