Broncs hand Mountaineers first league loss

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's tennis team swept all three doubles flights and took five-of-six singles matches en route to a convincing 6-1 league victory over Mount St. Mary's Friday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 6-10 (1-2 MAAC), handing the Mountaineers (10-4, 2-1 MAAC) just their fourth overall loss and their first in conference.

In doubles play, Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) and Matteus Froberg Dahlin (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) took a 6-2 victory at No. 1 over Alexi Roy and Akarsh Gaonkar. The duos of Roger Martinez (Girona, Spain/Saint George's School) and Cole Thurgur (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean) and Axel Engstrom and Cooper Dillon (Brisbane, Australia/Laurel Springs) both took 6-4 wins at Nos. 2 and 3 respectively. Martinez and Thurgur defeated Lucas Evans and Filippos Zachiotis, while Engstrom and Dillon got past Aaron Thompson and Ryan Wagner.

In singles play, the Broncs took straight-sets victories at Nos. 1, 2, 4 and 5 to clinch the match. Tangri defeated Gaonkar, 7-6, 6-3, at No. 1, while Froberg Dahlin was too much for Roy, earning a 6-4, 6-1, victory at No. 2. Engstrom defeated Evans, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4, while Thurgur earned a 6-1, 6-3, victory over Thompson at No. 5.
