PHILADELPHIA –
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) and
Chloe Monachelli (Somers, NY/Somers) earned singles victories, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell at Saint Joseph's, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 6-8, while the Hawks improved to 4-11.
In doubles,
Claire Brown (Duluth, GA/Northview) and
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) earned a 6-1 victory at the top flight over Wiktoria Czerny and Victoria Tracey. But the Hawks took the second and third flights and the doubles point.
Fishman earned a 6-4, 6-1, victory at No. 1 singles over Tracey, while Monachelli earned a 7-5, 1-6, 6-0, victory over Ana Ocasio at No. 5. But the Black Knights won the next three singles flights to finish and clinched the 4-2 victory. Two of the three came in three sets, while
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was a game away from evening her No. 6 match at a set apiece when it was halted.
The Broncs return to action Friday, when they play host to Mount St. Mary's at 4 p.m.
