PHILADELPHIA – The Rider University men's tennis team fell to nationally-ranked No. 28 Penn, 4-0, Sunday evening at Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-6, while the Quakers are now 14-3.
The Quakers jumped in front with 6-0 and 6-1 doubles victories at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively. Penn then took straight-sets victories at Nos. 1, 5 and 6 singles to clinch the victory.
Matteus Froberg Dahlin (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) and
Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) were especially competitive at Nos. 2 and 3. Froberg Dahlin was edged in the first set by Shaurya Bharadwaj, 7-6 (4) at No. 2, while Justin Chung took the first set from Slattery, 7-5, at No. 3. Neither second set had begun when the match was clinched and halted.
The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Chestnut Hill College.
