NEWARK, DE – Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) and
Matteus Froberg Dahlin (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) earned a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Delaware, 7-0, on Thursday. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-7, while the Blue Hens improve to 7-5.
Tangri and Froberg Dahlin defeated Tobey Lock and Euan Mackenzie, 7-5, at No. 1 doubles, but the Blue Hens took the point with a pair of 6-2 wins at Nos. 2 and 3.
The Broncs took three first sets in singles and fell in another by a tiebreaker. But Delaware came back to win all six flights and take the match, 7-0. Tangri took his first set vs. Karol Malirz, 7-5, before Malirz won the next two, 6-2 and 6-1.
Cole Thurgur (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean) won his first set at No. 4 vs. Aristotelis Bezianis, 6-4, before falling in the next two, 6-1, 6-1.
Axel Engstrom won his first set at No. 5 vs. Alexandre Gluck, 6-3, before falling in the second, 6-2. Gluck then pulled out a third-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (3).
At No. 2, Froberg Dahlin fell in a highly-competitive match to Lock, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they travel to Florida Southern. First serve from Lakeland, FL, is scheduled for noon.
