DAYTONA BEACH, FL –
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) won at both singles and doubles and
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) added a singles victory, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell at Embry-Riddle Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 5-6, while the Eagles, ranked No. 4 nationally at Division II, improved to 14-1.
In doubles, Fishman paired with
Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany/Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt) to earn a 6-4 win over Benedetta Sensi and Maissane Aik at No. 2. But the Eagles took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3.
In singles, Fishman earned a straight-sets, 6-4, 6-4, win over Aik at No. 1. Catanzarite won by the same 6-4, 6-4, scores over Franziska Kremerskothen at No. 6. But the Eagles took the remaining four singles flights, including a pair of three-set affairs, to close out the 5-2 victory.
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) came painfully close to a win at No. 4, but fell to Carla Cabero del Hierro, 0-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5 (5). Buss also took a set at No. 2, before falling to Jessica Christa Wira Hadipoernomo, 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.
The Broncs return to action Thursday, when they face Morgan State in Lakeland, FL.
