LAKELAND, FL –
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro),
Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany/Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt),
Claire Brown (Duluth, GA/Northview) and
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) each won singles matches as the Rider University women's tennis team defeated IU Indy, 4-3, Monday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 5-5, while the Jaguars fall to 1-6.
The Jaguars took the doubles point and a 1-0 lead with 6-2 wins at Nos. 1 and 3. But the Broncs won four of six singles flights to take the match. Buss took a 6-3, 6-3, victory over Chloe Bailey at No. 2, while Brown got past Elle Kotre, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3.
Catanzarite earned a 7-5, 6-0, victory over Hanan Awale at No. 6, before Fishman clinched the match with a third-set tie-breaker at No. 1, defeating Emma Dell, 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-6 (2).
The Broncs continue Spring Break action in Florida Wednesday, when they travel to Embry-Riddle. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
