LAKELAND, FL – Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) earned a win at No. 1 singles, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Florida Southern, 6-1, on Sunday. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-8, while the Division II nationally-ranked No. 27 Moccasins improve to 9-4.
Matteus Froberg Dahlin (Lidingo, Sweden/Hersby Gymnasium) and
Cole Thurgur (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean) earned a 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 2 doubles over Bosko Boskovic and Gabriel Jornert. But the Mocs took the point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3. Included in the decisions was a 7-6 (5) Florida Southern victory by Sam Frizelle and George Russell over
Cooper Dillon (Brisbane, Australia/Laurel Springs) and
Axel Engstrom at No. 3.
In singles play, Tangri earned a 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, victory over Frizelle at No. 1. But the Mocs took straight-sets victories at Nos. 2-5 and a third-set tiebreaker at No. 6 to clinch the match.
Matthew Griscti (Madliena, Malta) took a set at No. 6, but fell to Edoardo Melindo, 6-3, 4-6, 10-4. Engstrom was also highly-competitive at No. 5, but fell to Matthew Hewitt, 7-5, 7-5.
The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
