LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro),
Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany/Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt),
Claire Brown (Duluth, GA/Northview) and
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) won twice each as the Rider University women's tennis team defeated Binghamton, 5-2, Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 4-5, while the Bearcats fall to 4-8.
The Broncs took the doubles point with wins at the top two flights. Brown and Naves defeated Clara Arbeloa Lopez and Caterina Casadei, 6-1, at No. 1, while Fishman and Buss earned a 6-3 win over Loren Cuomo and Nitya Vyas at No. 2 to clinch the point.
In singles, Rider won the top four flights to earn the 5-2 match victory. Fishman defeated Casadei, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1, while Buss battled past Arbeloa Lopez, 6-1, 2-6, 7-5, at No. 2. Brown earned a 7-5, 6-4, victory over Samantha Jaros at No. 3, while Naves also won in straight sets over Vyas, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4.
Binghamton took the remaining two flights.
Chloe Monachelli (Somers, NY/Somers) fell in three sets to Kayla Castellano, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 5, while
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) was also competitive at No. 6, but fell, 7-5, 6-4, to Julia Pedraza Palacios.
The Broncs return to action Monday, March 17, when they begin their Spring trip to Florida vs. IU Indy in Lakeland, FL.
