EMMITSBURG, MD –
T.J. Weeks Jr. (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken Catholic [UMass]) scored a game-high 18 points and
Tariq Ingraham (Philadelphia, PA/Bonner-Prendergast [Wake Forest]) added his team-leading sixth double-double of the year, but the Rider University men's basketball team fell at Mount St. Mary's, 79-72, Sunday afternoon at Knott Arena. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 10-18 (6-11 MAAC), while the Mountaineers improved to 17-10 (10-6 MAAC).
The Broncs led for much of the first half, using a 10-2 run early to establish a 15-7 lead less than five minutes in. The lead extended to nine on two occasions, before the Mount went on an 8-0 run to close to within one, 24-23, at the 6:29 mark. Rider remained in the lead, 30-27, following a
Tank Byard (Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City [Alcorn State]) jumper with 1:53 left. But Mount St. Mary's scored the half's final seven points, including a buzzer-beating three from Carmelo Pacheco to take a 34-30 lead into halftime. Ingraham led the Broncs with 11 points, while
Zion Cruz (Trenton, NJ/Donda [DePaul/Pratt CC]) and Weeks Jr. added eight and seven points, respectively.
Rider immediately retook the lead in the second half, with
Ruben Rodriguez (Reading, PA/Reading) and Weeks Jr. hitting consecutive three-pointers. The Mount would score the next five points to retake the lead and after the Broncs tied the game at 43-43 on a Cruz transition three-pointer with 15:35 left, the Mountaineers retook the lead and later rattled off a 9-0 run to build a 57-47 cushion with 11:02 remaining.
The Broncs wouldn't go away, pulling to within two, 65-63, on a Cruz jumper with 4:25 left. But the Mountaineers kept it a two-possession game for the final 2:44.
Notes
- Mount St. Mary's snapped Rider's three-game winning streak in the series and cut the Broncs' lead in the all-time series to 17-14.
- Rider is now 6-7 all-time in Emmitsburg, including wins in both meetings since The Mount joined the MAAC.

- Rodriguez matched his season high with 11 points on 4-of-8 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from long range. He added five rebounds and two assists.

- The Mountaineers outshot the Broncs, 43.9 percent (25-57) to 38.7 percent (24-62), including a 36.4 percent (8-22) to 34.5 percent (10-29) margin from beyond the three-point arc.
- The Broncs took an 87.5 percent (14-16) to 75.0 percent (21-28) advantage from the free-throw line.
- Mount St. Mary's outrebounded Rider, 42-31, including an 11-8 edge on the offensive glass.
- The Mount outscored Rider, 32-14, in the paint and 21-8 on fast breaks.
- The Mountaineers led for 20:00 of game time to the Broncs' 17:20 with a lead.
