LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team was defeated Saturday by Mount St. Mary's, 76-49. The Broncs drop to 6-20 overall and 4-13 in MAAC play, while the Mountaineers improve to 13-12 on the season and 11-5 in league play.
Trailing 5-0, Rider went on a 10-2 run, led by five points from
Gabby Turco (Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood Crest[La Salle/Saint Anselm]). The Broncs would carry an 11-10 lead into the second quarter.
The Mount came out firing in the second, opening the quarter on 12-2 run to build a 22-13 lead. Rider countered with five-straight points by Turco, an old-fashioned three-point play by
Camryn Collins (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro), and a free throw from
Emmy Roach (Littlehampton, Australia/Heathfield) to tie the game at 22-22. The Mount would take a 27-24 lead into the half.
Winner Bartholomew (Abuja, Nigeria/Day Secondary School Birgi) opened the third quarter with a bucket to move Rider back within one, but the Mount went on a 20-2 run over the next seven minutes to push the lead to 47-28 and the Mountaineers led 53-33 entering the final 10 minutes.
The Broncs were unable to make a run in the fourth as the lead was pushed to as large as 32 before the final score was produced.
