Volleyball Topped in Straight Sets at Quinnipiac

HAMDEN, CT - The Rider University volleyball team was defeated in straight sets Saturday evening, falling 25-16, 25-13, 25-16. The Broncs drop to 12-15 overall and 10-6 in MAAC play. The Bobcats improve to 17-11 overall and 14-10 in league matches.
 
Rider appeared poised to bounce back from Friday's loss in the opening set. Tied 4-4, Rider went on a 5-1 run, including a pair of kills from Carley McAleavey (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West). The Bobcats would immediately respond with a 9-2 run to take the lead, then up 14-13, Quinnipiac went on another 9-2 run and cruised to the opening set victory.
 
Set two was all Quinnipiac from the start with the Bobcats quickly building a 12-4 advantage. Down 19-7, the Broncs went on a 5-0 run, including a pair of Simone Langford (Hollywood, FL/Flanagan) aces, but the Bobcats settled in and countered with a 6-1 run to close the set.
 
The Bobcats jumped out quick in set three, building a 6-1 lead. Up 13-8, it was a 4-0 run from the Bobcats to push the lead to nine. Down 24-13, the Broncs fought off three match points, but the Bobcats would score to secure the match

- Quinnipiac sweeps the season series and extends its lead in the all-time series to 18-14.
- Based on results from around the conference, the Broncs clinched a berth in the MAAC Tournament and can clinch a top four seed and first-round host win one win in their final two matches.

The Broncs are back in action Friday to begin the final MAAC weekend of the regular season when Siena comes to Alumni Gym for a 6 p.m. match.
