CLEVELAND, OH - Elijah Griffin was named the MAC East Division Wrestler of the Week after capturing the 141-pound title at the Princeton Open and defeating two nationally ranked opponents, as announced by the conference this morning.
At the Princeton Open, Griffin made an immediate impact in his Bronc debut, dominating his way to the 141-pound title with wins over two nationally ranked opponents. He stormed into the semifinals with a tech fall, decision, and major decision before taking down No. 14 Wyatt Henson (Lock Haven), the MAC's preseason favorite at the weight. Griffin's early takedown proved to be the difference in a gritty 4-3 upset. In the finals, he capped off his breakout performance with an 8-6 win over No. 21 Braden Basile (Army), recording two takedowns to secure the 141-pound championship.
The Broncs return to action on Nov. 8 when they take on No. 15 Illinois on the road.
