Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Texas Defeats Men's Basketball

Burton leads Rider with 16 points

AUSTIN, TX – Flash Burton (Philadelphia, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) scored a team-high 16 points, but the Rider University men's basketball team fell at the University of Texas, 99-65, Tuesday night at the Moody Center. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-3, while the Longhorns are now 4-1.

Texas opened the scoring with a 14-2 run and never trailed. An 8-0 Rider run on a pair of Burton three-pointers sandwiched around a Zion Cruz drive cut the deficit to 21-14 with 11:45 left in the first and the Broncs continued to hang tough, with triples from Cruz and Davis Bynum and a Burton jumper keeping the deficit at seven, 31-24, with 4:53 remaining in the period. But an 8-0 Texas run followed and a buzzer-beating three made it a 44-28 Longhorns advantage after 20 minutes. Burton led the Broncs with 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting (2-for-4 3ptFG) in the period.

A 7-0 Texas run early in the second pushed the Longhorns' lead to 24 and the closest the Broncs would get the rest of the way was within 20 points. Texas' lead swelled to as many as 37 on a late three-point barrage from Camden Heide, who hit four of his six three-pointers in the final 6:08.
