LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team was defeated Thursday evening, falling to Canisius, 63-43. The Broncs fall to 2-11 overall and 0-4 in MAAC play, while the Golden Griffins improve to 2-12 on the season and 1-3 in league play.
Early on it was Rider in control.
Camryn Collins (Foxboro, MA/Foxboro) scored five early points and
Mariona Cos-Morales (Matadepera, Spain/IES Matadepera[Casper College]) added four as the Broncs jumped out to an 11-2 lead. Canisius would immediately respond with an 8-0 run, but the Broncs would maintain a 21-18 advantage through the end of the opening quarter.
After a
Sanaa Redmond (Philadelphia, PA/The Shipley School[Samford]) three put Rider up 28-24, Canisius closed out the second quarter on a 10-2 run to go into the half leading 34-30.
Five points from
Aliya McIver (White Plains, NY/White Plains) and a pair of free throws by Cos-Morales gave Rider a lead at 37-36 early in the third. Canisius would outscore Rider 15-2 for the remainder of the third quarter, then outscore Rider 12-4 in the fourth to secure the win.
